Supervisory Legal Assistant (Office Automation)

If selected you will serve as a Supervisory Legal Assistant (Office Automation) for the Criminal Division. You will provide administrative and technical supervision to support staff who provide technical and legal assistant services to one or more Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs). As first line supervisor, you will organize and direct the activities of support staff personnel assigned. You will also provide legal assistant support to the Criminal Division Chief. Typical duties include; With assistance from the Criminal Division Chief, develop training plans for assigned employees, conduct on-the-job training, recommend formal training when needed, and provide for back-up skills by cross training. Advise employees of the performance requirements of their positions, complete midyear progress review reports, and prepare the annual performance appraisal for subordinate legal assistants in Criminal Division. Serve as the focal point in providing expert advice on legal support work. Conduct a variety of legal assistance duties pertaining to legal actions, requests or matters. Provide a wide range of direct legal support services for grand jury, investigation/criminal prosecutions, criminal complaint/warrant for cases involving but not limited to firearm cases, narcotics cases, financial institution fraud, bankruptcy fraud, mortgage fraud, environmental crimes, and telemarketing fraud. In response to requests from attorneys, conduct factual and legal research in legal and non-legal databases and provide requested information. Compose original letters which require an extensive knowledge of legal procedures for transmittal of pleadings, notices to attorneys representing defendants, and other matters. Produce a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. GS-09:
At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level in Federal service. Specialized Experience is defined as performing advanced legal support work; maintaining current knowledge of legal regulations, and laws; examining new cases for completeness, adequacy and consistency with applicable laws and regulations; providing legal assistance support to criminal cases requiring extensive searches of records, reference, or historical material. Preparing a wide variety of legal documents needed for litigation, e.g., complaints and evidentiary exhibits; legal assistance work requiring review of claims and supporting documentation; producing a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP):

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
